"... and now for something completely different" :)

Seems I had rather a LOT of hair - as you can see in this photo (me doing a "selfie" with my reflection in bathroom mirror - makes me feel like a teenager doing that - LOL) ... and in the previous blog post :)

... so - when I started telling people I was going to get it cut short, they were probably imagining something a bit like this:

but ... I had something else in mind ...

yes - doing the "World's Greatest Shave" at the assembly at the school I work at - several students and one other staff member also did the shave, and several more students coloured their hair.

here is my hair (posing for a photo, in a box on my desk :)

hmmm - rather a lot of interesting colours in there!
(and no dye/etc - all my natural colour, and grey, and the effects of the sun)

and ...

here is my new look!

scary? or not? (actually I look just a little too much like my dad! LOL)

... too bad if you don't like it - because I DO :)

here are a few more (rather dodgy) photos ... because I took quite a few "selfies" while trying to get a reasonably nice one - lol

... and now it is time to finish the other things I was doing, and log off this computer (one on someone elses desk at work, because I don't have one on mine) and get out of this place - seeing my official knock off time was almost 2 hours ago :)

Nets, and some other Nutty stuff ...

? apropos of Nothing ... or something like that ...
This is actually a post that I did NOT get around to posting back when I wrote it, so it is Not all New Now.

I Kind of didn't get around to a K post, for ABC Wednesday, and Lost the chance to do L in time ... Much the same for M ... so Now it is ... er - make that "was" ... N time (in fact it is Nearly too late for that!) ... lets hope this one doesn't end up as "Oops" ;-)
No - worse maybe - I was Naughty and "lost" it in among my draft posts for a year or so - LOL

The other day week month ... last year, I think I did take a photo of Nancy and her Nice, Nifty, Nets ... and she said she didn't mind if I used the photo on my blog ;-)

[ insert nancy net photo here if I can FIND it]

ok ... that might be easier said than done, but I am finding a few other N photos while I am looking:

a ?yabby Net that the dog fished out of a local dam

... I think whoever left it there was probably a bit Naughty - as far as I know one is Not allowed to use that sort of Net in this area.

I also found a photo of some Nutrigrain:

... why was I playing with Nutrigrain at work?
 - I was doing this:
 - setting up a rather odd science practical lesson ... the nutrigrain and beads and stuff were "prey" and the students got to use forks/spoons/skewers/etc to be different types of predators.

I also get to clean up the mess after science lessons ... and sometimes I get some odd things come back from the classroom ... something definitely looks Not quite right (in fact definitely wrong) here:
The brownish one is what it is meant to look like ... not sure what they did to the other one ... from the colour of it I would say one "delightful" student decided that it needed to be refilled with copper sulphate, or copper chloride ... sigh ...

Something also looks a bit Not right with this beer label:
... or is it just me who thinks there is something a bit unfortunate with the placement of the dark tip on that Thylacine's ear? (if you click on the photo you should get a closer look ;-)

N is also for Nose:
... welll - Diesel's Nose kind of IS in the middle of this photo ;-)

More "Not right" - it may have been a Nice fence, before some Naughty Nutcase wrote on it with a spray can!

some more Nutty things:
... the results of me messing around with some dog hair at a friend's dog grooming salon ;-)

a Nice place to sleep?
Spook seems to think I put that bunch of grass on the chair just so her head would be in the shade ;-)

Not right line markings?

Nice view! - from on top of The Nut, at Stanley, Tasmania (while on holidays there a while back)

... and I finally found the photos of Nancy and her Nets! LOL

She also gave me a URL ... which she wrote (Neatly?) on a bit of paper ... I wonder where I put that? lol
actually I think I found that and went there, and the page didn't exist ... but I got the correct URL a bit later on - http://netwurks.wordpress.com/ ... a site which I never did get around to having a decent look at, but (looking at it quickly now) I think I could get lost on there for a rather long time - LOL
actually I think that was a newer URL ... I am sure the original one she gave me was on blogspot - ah - here it is http://www.netwurks.blogspot.com.au/ also interesting to look at (gives an explanation of what it was/is all about) but hasn't been posted to since last year.

Now ... for some other N related, and hopefully Not too Nasty, Nuttiness from the InterNet ...

I often go here - What Not to Crochet er ... now I have to go find that link - LOL
- it can be found here: http://whatnot2crochet.com/wordpress/
(oh dear ... there are a few New things since I last looked, and some are downright Nasty! ;-)

there are also some what Not to knit sites too ... and I wonder how long before this - Knit Your Own Royal Wedding - will appear on those?! (er - that kind of gives away just how LONG ago I started writing this blog post! lol)
(or this, for that matter - Knit Your Own Dog: Easy-to-Follow Patterns for 25 Pedigree Pooches
... and I can Not leave out this Nutty crochet version - Ami Ami Dogs: Seriously Cute Crochet )
If they were going to, they probably have by Now, but I an Not going to go check ;-)
I suppose, before I post this mess, I should also check if those links still work? lol
(yes - they do ... they are actually books one can buy on the Amazon website ;-)

I was probably going to add some more Nonsense in here, but I think this post is now more than long eNough ;-)

btw ... just an interesting thing I Noticed as I was checking for typos (some of which I am sure to have Not Noticed), and looking to make sure I had Not forgotten to add any URLs/etc - this post contains NO tweets - LOL
(although I am fairly sure I have posted at least one of these photos to Facebook at some stage ;-)

Now, it is time to post this, add my URL to the list of Nutty N stuff on http://abcwednesday-mrsnesbitt.blogspot.com.au/  and go and watch the News ...

I Have A Nice Nifty New Camera

... Not that I Needed it ... well ... I probably do, or would soon - the other one is getting older, and was Not going to last forever - although it is still working fine for Now, except that the shutter button was getting a bit temperamental sometimes ... which is Not what one Needs ...

[Note: there are some (hopefully) Nice photos in this post ... so if you don't want to read all this stuff I am Nattering on about just scroll down Nearer to the bottom]

Isn't it Neat how DH just happened to have gone to the shop and bought it just in time for me to be able to use it for my letter N post for ABC Wednesday? LOL
(It was ordered ages ago, after DH found out it online and went and asked the shop if they had one to look at - they didn't so they said they would get one or 2 in and contact us when it arrived, a few weeks passed and he went in and asked and the order had been cancelled by person(s) unknown - so they ordered it again ... aparently it arrived a while back but stupid shop forgot to tell us it was here! I thought we were going to look at it before buying, but I was away for the weekend, and he liked it so he bought it - after that stuffing around I asked why he didn't go and buy it elsewhere, but it turns out that was the only shop where one can buy that particular camera ... although he might have been able to find one online - I found them here - Pentax Optio WG-1 14 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with GPS and 5xOptical Zoom - Gray ... that particular listing says they don't ship them outside the USA ... not much use to me here, but fine if you are there, and I am sure there would have been a listing where they do ship to Australia, but I just decided to stop looking and just link to this one because it has all the info about it and I did have fun reading the reviews (both good and bad) that people had written about the camera on this particular listing ;-)

What I do Need (for this blog post) is some Nice photos ... which I will first Need to take ...

(I am starting this Now, while I am here doing my Late M post, just in the Nick of time ;-)

? (well ... you Never know - I might get half organised ... or I might not ... reminds me of something someone posted on FB:

10 Reasons why I procrastinate.

1.

[later]

(when I have taken photos, but not put them on computer yet)

Now that I have a Nice New camera - I have to work out how to USE the darn thing! ... one almost needs a pilots licence to "fly" the old camera ... for this one I think i need certification to fly a Jet plane as well!
... and I still have not got the hang of how to do all the stuff I can do on my Nearly New mobile phone!
(I got that about 3 months ago - DH took me shopping to "have a look at what sort of phone I might want later/when my old one dies ... I had some cold/flu bug, but figured I may as well go out and do stuff rather than stay home feeling miserable ... so maybe that is why I ended up coming home with the fancy new phone, and a phone plan with calls and data and stuff, that HE likes - LOL
Mind you - it IS a nice phone - it has a better camera than our first digital camera was, also takes HD movies, lets me do stuff like google/etc if I need to, lets me do Facebook and Twitter for free (it is free if I use the "Tribe" app, but that only does the basic stuff ... but that does include posting photos to FB ;-) and i can dowload Android apps ... oh - and it also does text messages and phone calls - lol

Anyway ... I have been having a bit of a fiddle ... including some silly stuff involving 2 cameras and a phone ... now I just have to put the phone photos and the new camera photos onto the computer ... I did the other ones last night ... well ... early hours of this morning actually ("this morning" being the morning before I wrote this bit of the blog post ... which I will not be finishing and posting tonight because I kind of need some sleep ... I was going to have an early night ... and I was also going to walk the dog ... and, seeing it is after 11pm, I am not sure there is enough of this evening left to do either, let alone both!

... so I will put the photos in here later ... and rather than trying to make everything line up/etc I might do what I did for my last post - and put whatever I want to say about the photos in as captions (pity the captions don't show up in that new thingy - having the caption on the bottom of each photo... or at least the first line or 2 if it was a long one ... could be a good thing .. )

b4 I go - for Now I do have one or 2 pictures already on the computer that I can/want to include in here - so I decided to stick one here Now, and do what I have Normally been doing in my blog posts and Not do a caption using the thingy for it in the post editor thingy.

This photo was taken with the Now Not so New camera - which actually can take quite Nice pictures ... as long as they are not messed up by the Nut on the back of the camera ... who tends to choose really weird subject matter, and/or do silly things like change settings and forget to change them back and take scenery shots with the camera in macro mode or something stupid like that ;-)

hmmm ... I don't think I ever got around to taking a photo of the iPad ... or did I? [goes and looks at blog posts for about July sometime] no ... the photo I was thinking about was one I took WITH the iPad (a photo of DH's laptop and a whole pile of cords and chargers and phones and stuff in a hotel room in Tasmania) ... the iPad is another New thing we got this year - LOL
... I think I have just realised one reason why the computer is full of folders of photos (and once I put a whole pile more on here, from my phone and the iPad, it will be even worse!) - the iPad takes photos - it has 2 cameras in it - one on the back for taking photos of stuff, and one on the front for taking photos/video for chat/Facebook/etc. My phone takes photos/movies - actually my phone has 2 cameras too (same idea as iPad- front and back ones) ... and there is my old phone (which had one camera, but wasn't a very good one - but better than no camera so it did get used to take a few photos/movies the few times I had the phone but had forgotten the camera ... which only really happened if I had been putting photos on the computer and left it in here by mistake) I am not sure I even know how many cameras/things with cameras in them we have in the house - there is also DH's laptop and iphone, and his digital SLR camera (bought second hand from eBay several years ago) ... and one or both of the 2 almost dead old laptops might have cameras (but I can't be stuffed looking) and if DD's laptop is not off somewhere with her - there is another camera ... this computer doesn't have a camera, nor do the other old desktop computers we have hanging around
btw, we still have the original digital camera we bought about 10 years ago (still works but is a bit dodgy) ... but I don't still have the second digital camera we got (the not quite an SLR but almost as fancy one that I took overseas and used for scenic pictures because it had wide angle - the one I have been using also went with me, and when it wasn't in (almost constant) use it usually lived in my pocket ;-)

yikes ... I am getting confused just trying to count all those things - let alone remembering/learning how to USE them all!!!

Btw ... you may have Noticed that Blogger seems to have something New too - the "Lightbox" thingy to look at the photos in blog posts (unless the person blogging has gone in to their settings and said no to it) which means if you click on any one of my photos you see that, and thumbnails of all the others below it, so you can look at them all in the same place. The only thing I wasn't sure I liked is that they don't show up as the original size of the image, like they used to when they just came up as a .jpg on a page - but I decided to try something and found a way to look at them that old way if you want a really close look at something in my photo - rather than doing a normal left click on the photo - do a right click and then click on "open in new tab" - and it comes up as just the photo (like it used to for a left click)

[even later]

I reall Need to put those photos in and post this - so that all 5 of you who read this will actually have some photos to look at using Bloggers New thingy ;-)

the new camera (taken with older one ;-)

leaves - on plant next to my desk at work - taken with phone

more leaves, also taken with phone - works quite well actually ...

I uploaded this one by mistake (was in wrong folder and didn't notice) but will leave it here - was a photo (of what I spent my $100 quilt shop voucher on ;-)  that I took with my phone, so I could post it to Facebook using my phone rather than waiting until I get around to putting photos onto the computer - one of at least a few reasons why having a camera phone is handy ;-)

those leaves near my desk at work - taken with new camera (at the same time as I took the phone photos)

another photo of the leaves at work (with new camera)

a bee ... and me discovering one problem with the super duper macro settings on the camera - not much use if one can't get your subject to stay still, or get close enough to it without if flying away - most bees tend to fly away from something coming as close as 1cm away from them!

a bee bum ;-)

and ... still messing around with new camera - the dog and cat just happened to stand in the right spot ... or is that the wrong spot - seeing the dog has a car wheel on his head - LOL (I tend to take the photo first, then try and frame a better shot if the subject is still where it was/needs to be ... which in most cases it isn't, where dogs and/or cats are involved ...

testing out the macro lights on a spider at night - has several LEDs around the lens so I don't get the weird shadows I got with the other camera ;-)

my trusty not so new camera ... and the crochet "sock" I made for it after someone borrowed the case ... I only really used the case, or the sock, to keep it in when in my bag ... but most of the time I am out and about the camera lives in my pocket, ready to whip it out and take a photo ;-)

taking the dog for a walk, while fiddling with the new camera ... I think I was also fiddling with the phone too - posting weird stuff to twitter actually ;-)

silly photo time? - using new camera to take a photo of using phone to take a photo of old camera ... except I didn't bother to actually take the photo with the phone, because I had just taken a photo of the old camera with the new one ;-)

I knew I made that crochet "pencil case" for something ... not that good for pencils (they wou.ld poke out) or my crocheting (the hooks would poke out, and probably totally escape) ... but just the perfect size for all the cords and charger and stuff that came with the new camera (and still has enough room for the spare battery DH has ordered online ;-)

the stuff laid out on the desk for the previous photo - I decided to take one of the mess/stuff I had ready for uploading photos etc ... there are memory cards from the old camera in the little fabric thingy I sewed to keep them in, and the phone cord and phone (and a few other weird things, like a bit of old telephone cable that I grabbed and tied some knots in when I found a "how to" video about those knots on Youtube ;-) ... and a few other odd things all over the desk, including the other keyboard for the other computer that is connected to this monitor, and a nifty little photo printer that we got for free a couple years ago (I don't actually use it, but I might one day - could come in handy if I am travelling and want to make a print to give to someone I meet or something ... if I get to travel again and IF I remember to take the thing - LOL)

OK ... that is probably more than enough photos, and probably more stuff in the captions than anyone wanted to know - LOL

... time I went and did something useful ... the stuff I was going to do a couple hours ago but this took longer than planned (B$%^%$& windows or something - found all the  photos and got them half uploaded and the browser crashed and I had to start again ...grrrr) ... I have some weeding to do in the garden, and a lawn to mow ... a lawn that looks more like a jungle than a lawn, because it has got rather long - the dog almost gets lost in there and the cat probably does!

Nature parks ... and a Nice walk or 2 ...

... IN the Nature parks, of course!

Yes - this is my slightly  VERY late N post for Wednesday ABC

I did have one saved (from the last time around the alphabet, or maybe one or 2 before that) but it would take me ages to find all the photos I would want to put in that one (because it is about stuff that has been made and photographed over several years) ... and I was thinking about posting about some quilts I have Not finished ... but I have also Not taken photos of them ... although I should be out working on at least one of them Now! (Naughty me - in here on the Net again ... lol)

but ... I decided to post about a couple of Nice walks I recently went on, in one of our local Nature parks - while the subject is still sort of New ...

We have a few Nature parks here in Canberra ... the Nearest one is the Dunlop Grasslands - where some of this Nice walk with the dog happened ... but this post is about another one - Near where I work actually ... after living in Canberra for a few years, and then working Nearby (and moving up this end of town as well) I had still Never got around to walking around in the Aranda bushland, or on that side of Black Mountain, until Now (well a month or so ago actually)  ... in the last month or 2 I have been for about 3 walks in the area!

The first one was just the opening of that Garden Tea Party textile art exhibition, Nearly 2 months ago Now - I actually walked there from work - through some of the Aranda bushland/foothills of Black Mountain (I am Not sure where the Aranda Bushland ends and the Black Mountain part starts - lol)

The Next one was about 2 weeks ago - when there was an annual wildflower walk that someone organises (not sure who - I think I found out about it from a landcare newsletter or something - I have known about it in the past but it has always been when had somewhere else I had to be at the time - this time I didn't ;-)
There were lots of orchids and other wilflowers (even more than when I had walked through there a few weeks before) ... I think I only took about 600 photos! - I LOVE digital cameas!!! LOL

Then ... one day last week I decided to get DH to drop me off at work and then when I finished work I would walk through the bushland and around/over one or other side of Black Mountain and in towards the middle of town (where we went to a rather Nice little resteraunt for tea) and get him to pick me up from wherever I had got to when he rang to say he was on his way in - which just happend to be up on TOP of Black Mountain - LOL (well - by the time I got to a track that I knew would go to a road I could be met at, it was just as quick/close to go to the top of the hill as it would be to go around it ... so up I went ... talk about a good work out though! - it gets steeper up near the top)

I also took a fair few photos that day ... so I have rather a lot to choose from, to put in here - LOL
(hmmm - I suppose I should actually put that last lot ON to the computer or I will Not be putting any of those here Now ;-)

[Andrea goes and fiddles with photos, hits "publish" on this post that I just typed up for one of my other rather Neglected blogs (which could have been an N post, but I wanted to post this one so I didn't Need to use that one) and goes and puts on another load of washing, hangs up the other one ... probably Need to hurry up and mow the lawn Now - before it gets dark - too ... and by then the dog will "Need" his walk, and I have some other stuff that Needs doing ... so it will probably be later in the Night (or maybe even the Next day before I get back to this]

It is now a day or 2 later ... and I am still doing a coupld of those things ... just sticking a photo on that post on that other blog before I publish it (it is uploading at the moment) ... some washing got done, and a few of the other things, and the dog got a walk (in fact he has had 2 or 3 walks since I typed the first half of this post) ... but the lawn still needs mowing - lol

Ok ... now for the photos ... which I could have put in amongst the text I suppose ... but I wrote all that before I dug around in my photos so it is probably easier, and will make more sense, to just do it this way ...

So ... starting with the wildflower walk a couple of weeks back ...

btw - yes I took a LOT of photos, but I will not try and put too many dozen here - LOL

- I have dug around and chosen a few that were pretty and/or interesting, and in focus ... (some of the close up ones are not - what the camera thinks I want to focus on and what I actually do want it to focus on are not always the same thing - lol)

These should all be clickable - so you can click on them and see the full size photo (or you might want to right click and open them in a new tab/window so you can flick between the big photo(s) and this page (to read my descriptions/etc.)

anyway ...
here are some Wattle flowers
half in focus and half out ... that tends to happen with macro shots - because of the shallow depth of field.
hmmmm - I didn't notice when I took the photo (was probably in a hurry to take that and dash over to the next flower or something - lol) but those yellow fuzzy balls are not just evenly round fuzzy balls ... they have thick and thin patches and longer spikey bits. hmmm - I would have to look at one more closely to be sure, but I think the shorter fuzz is probably the stamens (the male bits) and the fewer longer bits the pistils (female bits) ... but because I am only looking at the photo and guessing - I could be wrong - whatever part of the anatomy - they are quite pretty actually ...

and next ... these look like something I grew up calling "egg and bacon flowers"
I guess one can see where that name came from - lol
(drats ... now I am starting to feel hungry!)

and here is a photo of a pile of trees ... because I like trees ... and because this is sort of what the area mostly looks like, but more flowers (and mabye a few less trees) in some patches.

and ... not only were there interesting and pretty flowers - there are also funghi - quite tiny, these ones ...
I think they were less than an inch tall. (those sticks in the photo are leaf stems and very tiny twigs/bits of dry grass/etc.)

there was some Lichen too ...

and ... something ...
... which doesn't look like it has flowered yet - the interesting purplish brown bits look like buds where whatever it is will eventually have flowers.

There were lots of orchids - like this spider orchid (I think that is what one of the experts said this one was - so many plant names and only one brain to store them in - lol)

and ... right where a group of people sat down (and nearly sat ON them) for morning tea:
... some other variety of orchid, quite a rare one apparently.

I guess one could be forgiven for not noticing them in amongst the grassy stuff:
(yes - there are orchids hiding in amongst that other stuff, which isn't actually grass, btw)

but whatever it is - this spider seemed to be happy living there:

and talking about almost sitting, or stepping on, flowers and stuff - this was the walk where I almost stood on that Lizzard - there is a photo of that in my recent "L" post (a couple of weeks ago) ...

   - I was sneaky - because it was already uploaded for that other post, I could just use the "add image" thingy to grab it and put it here - because it just puts in the link to wherever blogger already has it stored (in my picassa web album, which blogger/google created for me when they decided to make blogger images work that way ... I think I might have even gone and looked at it once ... lol)

now ... where was I?

here is another photo of trees ... and a lot of flowers ...
...which kind of don't look that spectacular in the photo? - but - as is the case with a lot of flowers that often go unnoticed - when one looks more closely ...

... they are really quite pretty:
(yes - these are the same as the blue ones in the bottom left hand corner of the photo before this one)

and here - a couple more things that an unsuspecting person might step on, without even realising they are there:
 - some kind of interesting green orchid (might be a hood orchid?) ... and a parrot feather ... and - also a reddish colour - some Drosera - otherwise known as Sundew

ah ... I uploaded all the photos that are on this post, then had another dig around and found a couple more photos of  sundew ... but the photo uploading thingy seems to be having a hissy fit and won't let me browse to actually find and select any more photos to upload ... pity ... there was a nice one of sundew with purple flowers ...
oh well - back to the pile of photos I had already uploaded/put in here:

... some more Sundew:
I am not sure if this is the same species as the red ones or not ... well I wasn't - but now that I have just googled it and read about them (on the wikipedia page that I have now linked to above) and noticed the flowers in my photos are different colours - I am sure they are at least 2 different species - there were both red and green leaved ones where we went on the wildflower walk, but I took this photo a week or so later while walking the dog down near a local pond. (this lot may be a 3rd species, different than either of the ones at the bottom of Black Mountain)

... Here is some more - closer up - showing the sticky droplets of whatever it is on what I think are actually leaves (they are not flowers - you can see the white flowers on the green one in the previous photo) - the sticky stuff is what they use to help catch insects - yes - this tiny and rather pretty thing is a carnivorous plant!
That close up photo is one I took a few days ago (Friday, I think) when I got dropped off at work in the morning, and then when I finished work I walked back toward the area where I had gone on the wildflower walk ... and took another hundred or so photos.

Here are some more orchids

and here I am most of the way up Black Mountain ... that tower is at the top ...
(the path is steeper than it looks in this photo too!)
and this is a veiw from the carpark at the top (yes - there is a road up the other side - that is where DH drove up to collect me ;-) One can also go up inside the tower and look out, but I didn't this time - because that costs money - lol
if you look in almost the middle of this photo, there are buildings ... and if you click on the photo so that you get to see the full size version, then you might be able to see a bunch of buildings with dark green roofs (right in the middle of the photo - closest to where I am taking the photo from - to the left of the green oval, which doesn't look oval but you can see the patch of green grass colour) - those green roofed buildings are the school where I work - where I had just walked from!

(btw, there are some roundish hills behind that dead tree branch - I live over in that direction somewhere in the dark green stuff this side of the hills)

er - talking about where I work ... I have to get up and go there in the morning ... so why am I still UP? LOL

oh bother ... just went to check the ABC Wednesday page and I have missed the chance to add this to the linky thingy - O is already there and the N one is closed ... oh well ... if I do my O post really soon (like maybe tomorrow) then people might notice this one is before it - lol
... not that it matters - most of my reason for posting these silly alphabet posts was because it is a good way to motivate me to at least try and post something to my blog every week or so, rather than ever few months or "whenever" ...
I guess I don't HAVE to blog ... but I want to - I have about 10 ideas for things that I really want to post to my blog, and have been meaning to for ages but have kind of not got around to it yet (for most of them it is because I need to either take photos to go in those posts, or spend ages digging around in my photos trying to find the photos to go in them, but a couple are just because I kind of never went got around to it). I also have a few other ideas half written/etc and saved as drafts (again - mostly waiting for me to take/add photos or something) ... and I have a few ABC ideas saved as half written drafts too ...

anyway ... this is Not the hour I meant to be still awake at ... Ooops - Naughty me? lol

- time for this Night Owl to say Night Night ...
